The 2K2 is a ‘high-end’ 2-way system (bump and rebound separately adjustable) shock absorber with springs (also known as ‘coil-over’) for demanding track day and competition use, that is adjustable in height and damping and always comes with an external reservoir. It is modular and, apart from the piston rod, entirely composed of high-quality anodized aluminum with external reservoirs (for the non Macpherson shocks). On average, the 2K2 light-alloy shock absorber is 35% lighter than a comparable steel shock absorber (measured without spring). It is based on the same technology that has helped Schumacher become a World Champion.

If it involves a Macpherson suspension, the absorber will feature a design with a 45mm Ø (52mm for the XL version) upside down insert. This upside-down design delivers a much higher installation rigidity (less flexibility) to the Macpherson suspension. This higher installation rigidity results in a much better handling and a more direct steering behavior.

Setting

All shock absorbers that Intrax manufactures are custom-built. This means the shock absorbers will only be manufactured once the specific data of the car (tyre type, use of the car, any adjustments made to the car, etc.) and the driver’s wishes are known. Based on these data, the engineers calculate/design the ideal shock absorber, which will then be manufactured.

Adjustable damping

Because of the second knob for the settings and the external reservoir, the 2K2, in comparison with the 1K2, can be adjusted in an even more refined way. For example, the 2K2 allows for an independently adjustable bump (inward stroke of the shock absorber) related to the rebound (outward stroke of the shock absorber).

The knob to adjust the bump is located on the external reservoir. The independently adjustable bump and rebound in combination with an external reservoir makes the 2K2 the ideal shock absorber for the demanding competition (track day) driver, who wants to remain in full control.

Thermostat

The 2K2 damper is fitted with an internal thermostat. The thermostat keeps the damping constant at varying temperatures.

This means the damping and driving behaviour remain exactly the same at various operating and ambient temperatures.

Large diameters

Where possible, the housing and the external reservoir of the 2K2 shock absorber are made of high-quality aluminum. This guarantees a low weight, maximum strength, optimal cooling and large volumes because of the external reservoir. Whilst designing the 2K2 shock absorber, the largest possible diameter is chosen for an even more accurate damping control; usually a 52mm housing with 46mm piston. Where possible, Macpherson struts are fitted as upside-downs with a 45mm (52mm for the XL version) diameter instead of a thin piston rod that is mounted to the chassis.

Available with these options:

Black Titan

Black Titan is a development originating from military aviation. They aimed to develop a metal treatment that would make the surfaces of jet engine parts more resistant to the various punishing circumstances to which those engines are exposed (extreme cold and heat, extreme airflow speeds combined with rain, snow, sand et cetera). The result was what we now call Black Titan: a coating that is extremely hard, has very low friction and protects against corrosion. After applying this coating on critical components of the jet turbine engines, the maintenance intervals could be extended with up to 100%, or twice as long.

We at Intrax saw the advantages of this material and started applying this wear-resistant coating to the guide and piston rods of our shock absorbers. Black Titan makes them very resistant to corrosion and damage from road dirt, and friction is greatly reduced, which not only improves the functioning and responsiveness of the dampers, but also increases durability.

Camber plates

Compared to the standard rubber top mounts that allow a lot of movement, a greatly increased control over the suspension and
steering is created. The camber plates make the camber (in some cases also the caster) infinitely adjustable. The camber plates and hard top mounts that we have in stock
can be viewed here. If the desired camber plate and/or top mount is not included, please contact us, we often have another solution (welding plates) or make a custom plate for you.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We do not recommend camber plates and/or hard top mounts for street use. Due to the hard connection that is made between the suspension and the chassis, extra noises can be heard.

ARC (Anti Roll Control)

The ideal system for both normal road use and competition use. With the ARC® system, it’s possible to use that slightly softer spring that makes the car more compliant over bumps or curbstones at racetracks, that gives more grip and traction, but which is actually too soft because it generates too much unwanted roll and/or pitch, and which may even lead to the suspension bottoming out over some bumps, potholes or curbstones.

Thanks to the fact that ARC® is capable of differentiating between normal bumps and cornering movement, and even between different kinds of bumps, it is possible to choose that softer spring or a softer anti-rollbar. At large bumps or roll or pitch movements, the damping increases immediately, which prevents bottoming and reduces body movement. ARC® does all this without using any complicated and failure-prone electronics. ARC® is a system that interprets the shock travel speed in an intelligent mechanical-hydraulic way and can differentiate its response to different suspension inputs.

EMC (Electronic Magnetic Control)

Intrax developed a unique system with which from the inside of the car the shocks can be adjusted. With our system you can adjust the front shocks separately from the rear shocks. The EMC is developed with competition in mind so it can cope with large forces and when for some reason the electronics have a failure the shocks will go to the safe middle setting (so no max hard or max soft). For more information don’t hesitate to call or mail us.

EHC (Electronic Height Control)

With this lift system the pre-load (height of the car) on the spring can be changed from inside the car. Intrax developed a compact hydraulic pump with which the preload adjusters can be changed in length which will change the height of the car. Offered for the front but can also be fitted on front and rear shocks.

By adding EHC as an extra option, the height can be adjusted from inside the car. This can have the advantage that the bumper no longer touches the ground at steep angles in a garage, for example, that higher speed bumps can be taken without any problems, that entry becomes easier, that the normal driving position can be lower and much more.
